World Arthritis Day


Lucknow: Several events were conducted on the occasion of World Arthritis Day on Tuesday jointly by the Arthritis Foundation of Lucknow (AFOL) and Healthcity Hospital.

Secretary AFoL Dr Sandeep Kapoor and president Dr Sandeep Garg said that the events conducted for awareness about arthritis and its treatment included cyclothon, vintage car rally, Zumba and Yog, which were conducted under covid protocol.

Chief guest of the programme was LDA VC Shri Akshay Tripathi, and among the eminent personalities participating were Dr AM Siddiqui, Dr Anand Sagar Pandey, Dr Pulkit Singh, Dr KB Jain, Dr Rajesh Arora, Dr KK Singh, Dr Pramesh Agrawal, Dr Himanshu Krishna Dr Darshana Kapoor, Ritu Garg, Dr KP Chandra, Dr navneet, Tripathi, Dr Vinod Tiwari, Dr Arun Pandey, Navneet Gaur, Indrasen Singh, Jaideep Sonkar, Mohd Anas, Amit Pandey, Goldie Anand, Dipak Singh, members of the AFoL and different cycling groups like Cyclopaedia.


Speaking during the event, Dr Kapoor said that Arthritis today is like an epidemic and no individual can fight the menace alone. Keeping this in mind I initiated a foundation in 2010, named Arthritis Foundation of Lucknow. Innumerable awareness campaigns and activities have been done under its banner for the masses at large. "We should pay back to the society, more than what we got. Patients get free treatment including joint replacement surgeries under this foundation," said Dr Kapoor.


Since 6 am participants started gathering at Healtcity hospital. All events were conducted under covid protocol.

Speaking upon significance of early diagnosis and role of awareness regarding arthritis doctors said early diagnosis and treatment is the key to relief and pain free life.

Dr Garg said that the Yoga and Zumba were conducted under guidance of expert trainers. The doctors said that arthritis is primarily the disease of joints but with pain and other discomfort this disease effects the entire daily life for an individual.

Arthritis ranks number one among lifestyle diseases today. Pain, difficulty in movement, stiffness in joints, are common factors among arthritis patients. Often patients face loss in grip also hence are unable to pick up items during their daily lives and seek help from other family members.

Speaking upon the treatment options Dr Garg and Dr Kapoor said that with transplant surgery the patients are able to do their daily activities comfortably and with modern medicines patients can get relief from pain too but the treatment options are limited and delay in starting treatment can lean to trouble.
