Prime minister of India Narendra Modi launched a new concept of "Amrit Sarovar" emphasizing on water conservation and abatement of pollution in ponds in the country.

Prime minister of India Narendra Modi launched a new concept of "Amrit Sarovar" emphasizing on water conservation and abatement of pollution in ponds in the country. With the inspiration of the Hon'ble Prime Minister and the instructions of Hon'ble Governor Anandiben Patel ji, under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor Prof Alok Kumar Rai, a biodiversity park will be established in the second campus of Lucknow University.

In this park a pond/lake will be developed between Faculty of Engineeing and Institutre of Management Sciences to provide water to various animals, birds and butterflies.

Along the pond, lots of plantation will be done. Different species of herbs, shrubs and trees will be planted. Most of them will be host plant of butterflies as well as host trees of various types of birds where nesting and roosting takes place.


Lot of birds like Myna, Treepie, Hornbill, Sparrow, Peacock, Cattle egret, lapwing and other waterbirds will be flourish and breed in that pond and will be the point of attraction for visitors and lot of butterflies mainly the Appilio demoleus, Plain tiger, Striped tiger, Common jezebel , Common crow, Blue pancy, Peacock pancy, Common rose, Common mormon will breed on the host plant. In this way, a lake and bio-diversity park will be established in Second Campus of University of Lucknow which will provide habitat to different type of animal. In this way the urban biodiversity will be conserved.
