Amit Shah directs CM Yogi to ensure TCS stays functional in Lucknow

Lucknow: On the first day of his three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh capital, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Saturday directed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to make sure that the renowned IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) does not leave the city.

The matter, which has caused threat to jobs of thousands of techies here, was raised before Shah by BJP’s Lakhimpur Kheri wing in-charge Virendra Pratap Singh. He told Shah that TCS has planned to shift from Lucknow by the end of the year.

Taking the matter into cognizance, Shah immediately asked Yogi to take necessary steps and ensure that the company continues to operate in the state capital.

Informing him about the progress in the matter, Yogi said, “I will be having a meeting with TCS CEO and a few other officials on July 31, where we would discuss ways to sort out their problems and ensure their presence in the city.”

TCS formally announced to call off functioning in Lucknow on July 12. The reason behind its closure was speculated to be the rise amount of rent of the building where the company is currently operating.

Pointing out the reason, the company had claimed that the Lucknow office has consistently failed in meeting the expectation in terms of revenue generation and that is why they were closing the branch.

Several TCS officials had started to protest against company’s decision. They along with their family members also launched a candle march to the CM’s official residence at the 5 Kalidas Marg.

CM Yogi Adityanath has even in the past assured the troubled company officials of good news in the coming days. Now after Amit Shah’s orders, it is expected that TCS will continue to operate in the city.
