Prayagraj: Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles, Smriti Irani on Tuesday, took a holy dip in the sangam on the auspicious occasion of Kumbh Mela, at Prayagraj.

The member of Parliament also tweeted her picture of taking a bath in Triveni Sangam, with a caption, "#kumbh2019 #trivenisangam हर हर गंगे "

Prayagraj, formerly known as Allahabad is observing 55-days-long festival, where sadhus and devotees from all over the world have come together to celebrate this religious festival.

Triveni Sangam, in Prayagraj has the confluence of two rivers--the Ganges and the Yamuna. And the visibility of two is quite clear, with Gange's clean and clear water, Yamuna stands out with its green color water.

This holy site also has a religious significance as the auspiciousness of this place is referred to in the Rigveda, which says, "Those who bathe at the place where the two rivers flow together, rise up to heaven".

Smriti Irani took the bath in the confluence of the two holy rivers after the Shahi Snan.

As the centuries old custom holds that no one can enter the holy river before the akhadas finish their Shahi Snans. Once the sadhus are done with their Shahi Snan, common visitors can take a dip in the river.
