Saumya Pandey brings Allahabad back in UPSC merit list; secures 4th rank

Allahabad: Bring pride to the Sangam city, Saumya Pandey secured fourth rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination, result of which were announced on Wednesday.

It must be mentioned that Saumya has always been a bright student and is a gold medallist from the prestigious Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT).

Saumya, who also is also a trained Kathak dancer from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, says that she wanted to become a civil servant to serve the society on a larger scale, as in her earlier role of an electrical engineer that she completed in 2015, she could only have worked for a certain section of the society.

In addition to her extracurricular activities, she is a skilled basketball player as she used to captain her school team.

The only child of Dr Sadhana Pandey, a gynecologist by profession, and Dr Ravi Pandey, owner of a computer institute, Saumya had topped the district in CBSE board Class 10 examination from Army School in 2009 by securing 98 per cent marks.

She again secured 97.8 per cent marks in Class 12 examination from the same school and was again the district topper in 2011.

Saumya Pandey completed her electrical engineering from MNNIT with a gold medal in 201. She had chosen Geography as an optional subject.

Saumya has brought Allahabad back in the UPSC merit list after a long gap of six years. Earlier in 2009, Iva Sahai, daughter of an Allahabad University professor, had secured third rank in the examination.
