Alld HC directs BHU for the treatment of eye patients at PGI

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Friday directed the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to provide medical treatment to seven patients who lost their eye sight, at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Lucknow.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice Dr D Y Chandrachud and justice Yashwant Verma ordered the BHU to pay for the expenses of these patients while hearing the public interest litigation filed by law students of different universities.

The PIL alleged that all the seven patients who lost their eye sight during the treatment at BHU were injected wrong injection and it was due to the negligence of doctors of the BHU.

The court has also asked the BHU authorities to file a counter affidavit within 2 weeks and further, the court has said that if any report in the matter has been prepared by the CMO, Varanasi, the same shall be place before the Court on the next date of hearing. The Court has fixed April 22 as next date of hearing
