Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court on Thursday asked the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) to implement its notice issued to a former MLA, Ashok Chandel for demolition of his building being used as marriage hall and for other commercial activities.

The Bench comprising Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Sunita Agarwal passed the above order while hearing a petition filed by Sarla Kha of district Kanpur.

The Court has also directed to make a spot inspection and file a report in the Court.

Petitioner, who is neighbour to the former MLA, has alleged that the former MLA used his power and position and illegally constructed a building without permission of KDA in a residential area. The allegation was that because of the commercial activities the building, it has become impossible for other residents of the locality to live peacefully.

Counsel for KDA, Anoop Trivedi informed the Court that authority has already served demolition notice to the former MLA.

The Court has fixed August 9 as next date of hearing.
