Allahabad: The Allahabad University has been directed by the High Court to ensure that all hostels of the University should get vacated by May 25 for white washing and repairing.

The Court has directed the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police to assist the University in this exercise which has to complete white washing and repairing works of hostel rooms and mess between May 26 and June 10.

The Allahabad HC also directed University to provide summer hostels to all the students who need it during this period and has asked the registrar of the University to file an affidavit to apprise the court with the competition of work.

The court had earlier, directed the Registrar of AU to ensure strict compliance of the Rules of AU, which provide that each rooms of all the hostels, which are occupied by the students shall be vacated by April 30 of each year subject however, to the condition that the examination of the concerned students is over and that such hostels are white-washed and cleaned so as to be ready by June 30.

In the present case, the petitioner was admitted in the subject of Defence Studies in two years Master of Arts

Course in the Allahabad University and was allotted a room in the Tara Chand Hostel attached to AU, approached this court, stating that despite the said allotment, he was not being provided actual accommodation and the reason disclosed

It was alleged by the petitioner that there are large number of illegal occupants in the hostels attached to the University of Allahabad including the Tara Chand Hostel. The Court has fixed May 9 as next date of hearing.
