Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday denied putting a stay on expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dayashankar Singh’s arrest and fixed August 8 as the next date of hearing.

The bench of Justices Ajay Lamba and Ravindra Nath Mishra has asked the state government to explain the need of custodial interrogation from Singh. The court also directed the state government and BSP general secretary and senior advocate SC Mishra to file counter affidavits by August 5.

Court was hearing on a petition filed by Dayashankar Singh, seeking stay on his arrest.

HC earlier had issued a non-bailable warrant against Singh who is on the run after making derogatory remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party Supremo Mayawati.

An FIR was lodged against Singh on July 20 at Hazratganj police station under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
