3-Year-Old Raped-Murdered in UP's Lakhimpur, Third Such Incident in 20 Days

The postmortem report of a three-year-old girl, whose body was found in a sugarcane field in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Thursday, revealed that the child was raped before being strangulated, a police officer said on Friday. The accused was arrested in an encounter today, the officer added.

According to the police, the 30-year-old accused, who was a neighbour to the victim, sustained a bullet injury on his leg during the encounter and is out of danger. A police constable was also injured in the firing.

3-Year-Old:

On Wednesday, the victim’s family filed a complaint at Singhai police station after the child went missing. Her body was found in the field the next day.

Subsequently, an FIR was lodged against the accused on charges of murder and the body was sent for autopsy.

Arun Kumar Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur Kheri said the medical report confirmed that the victim was raped before she was strangulated to death.

The cop also said that the incident was a fallout of an old enmity between the accused and the victim’s family. In 2004, the accused’s wife was murdered following which the victim’s uncle was arrested in the case, he added.

The child’s uncle is presently out on bail.

Lakhimpur:

This is the third such incident in the district in the last one month.

On August 14, the body of a 13-year-old girl, who was raped before being murdered, was found in a field in Isha Nagar police station area.
