Dehradun: The hills of Uttarakhand witnessed first snowfall of winters in early hours on Tuesday.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (MeT), a heavy snowfall was recorded in the areas near Gangotri, Yamunotri and Badrinath and heavy rains were also recorded in Hemkund Saheb and some parts of Himalayan foothills. The change led to drop in mercury.

According to the MeT officials, the rains were a result of 'remnant moisture'.
