Third derailment on Thursday; Goods train goes off track in Khandala

Mumbai: In the third derailment in a single day on Thursday, two coaches of a goods train went off track near Khandala here.

Before the incident was reported, two other trains had already derailed – one in the national capital and the other in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. The previous two derailments happened within a gap of a few hours.

The first derailment on Thursday took place at around 6.25 am, when seven coaches of Jabalpur-bound Shaktipunj Express went off the tracks near the Obra Dam station in the Sonbhadra district. It was the third rail accident in UP within a month.

The rail traffic on the Chaupan-Singharauli route was majorly affected due to the derailment of the train which was coming from Howrah.

Within a few hours, the engine and power car of the Ranchi-Delhi Rajdhani Express derailed near Minto Bridge at 11:45 am. The accident took place when the train was about to reach the Delhi station. One passenger got injured in the mishap.

Soon afterwards, a major mishap was averted by a boy in Farrukhabad as he alerted the Kalindi Express driver about the fractured track. The incident was reported between Farrukhabad and Fatehgarh.
