Kolkata: At the point when the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is striving to get more investments for the state, Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE), an ancillary unit of Tata and Sons, has decided to wind up its office in Kolkata and merge it with the existing set-up in Jamshedpur.

"TCE is a premium engineering consultancy services of the country. Kolkata has a few mid-level engineering consultancy services but nothing to match the Tata brand. If TCE leaves Bengal, it's apparently a loss”, an industry source said.

Highlights:

  • TCE offers services in industry segments like power, nuclear energy, chemicals and infrastructure, among others.
  • It has delivered over 7,000 successful projects across the globe.
  • The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TCE, Amit Sharma, came down from the Mumbai head office and informed TCE’s West Bengal office that the unit was being shut down.
  • Its 350 employees could move to TCE Jamshedpur if they desired so and the others could leave.
  • TCE recently informed the owners of the premises that the unit would be folded up in August.
