Six policemen suspended for beating 2 men to death in Mainpuri

Mainpuri: The insensitive face of Uttar Pradesh police came to fore once again when two labourers had allegedly been beaten to death by cops in Mainpuri district on Friday after they refused to give a bribe of Rs 100, the police said.

Four policemen - sub-inspector Udai Veer Singh, head constable Girish Chand and constables Gaurav Singh and Vinay Gautam were placed under suspension and a case of murder had been registered against them, it added. Two home guards have also been suspended in the case.

What is the Mainpuri incident:

  • Four labourers were travelling in truck loaded with bricks
  • Police stopped it at a check post near Kosma crossing
  • Cops allegedly demanded Rs 100 as bribe for letting the truck go
  • Driver refused to give them the money
  • An argument started between policemen and labourers which later intensified
  • Two men Netrapal and Radha Mohan along with the driver fled the scene
  • Dileep Yadav and Pankaj Yadav were caught and beaten up badly by the policemen
  • Their bodies were later found floating in a pond nearby

Post mortem report suggests major injuries:

  • When the incident came into light, policemen initially denied the allegations
  • They said that both the men died after drowning in a pond
  • But autopsy report confirmed that they sustained major injuries which was the cause of their death
