Mumbai: Legendary playback singer of Bollywood Mubarak Begum passed away at her residence in suburban Jogeshwari of Mumbai in Maharashtra on Monday. She was 76.

Mubarak was not keeping well since last few years. In 2011, a financial aid of Rs one lakh was sanctioned by the Maharashtra government for the ailing singer’s treatment.

Other highlights:

  • Mubarak was the voice behind many evergreen songs during 1950s to 70s.
  • The singing legend is remembered for giving her voice to scores of ghazals, songs as well as duets.
  • She sang the evergreen song ‘Kabhi Tanhaiyon Mein Ayegi Hamari Yaad’ for the flick ‘Hamari Yadd Ayegi’ (1961).
  • Earlier in this month, Mubarak was admitted to a city hospital after complaining of stomach-ache and weakness.
