Seventh accused in BRD Medical College tragedy surrenders in court

Gorakhpur: The seventh accused in the shocking deaths of children due to lack of oxygen supply at the BRD Medical College here surrendered in the corruption prevention court on Wednesday.

Chief pharmacist Gajanan Jaiswal, who had been held accused in the probe report, has been sent to seven-day judicial custody.

Earlier on Tuesday, hospital's assistant accountant Sanjay Tripathi, who was nabbed from Kachahri Chowk in the Cantt police station region, was sent to 14-day judicial custody by the court.

Apart from Gajanan, former medical college Principal Dr Rajeev Mishra, his wife Dr Purnima Shukla, Dr Kafeel Khan, former Anesthesia in-charge Dr Satish and accountant Sudheer Pandey were also produced before the court on Wednesday.

The court extended Purnima Shukla's judicial custody by 14 days. Dr Rajeev Mishra and Dr Satish would be produced before the court on next date of hearing on September 15. Sudhir Pandey will be next produced in the court on September 22.

Gajanan is the seventh accused who has been arrested in involvement with the saddening demise of over 60 children at the BRD Medical College here last month. Police, however, is yet to nab Pushpa Sales owner Manish Bhandari and Uday Pratap Sharma who are also accused in the case.
