Sachin in Barabanki promises to illuminate 25k houses by 2020

Lucknow/Barabanki: The 'God of Cricket' Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday appealed to associate with the mission of relighting the villages by installing solar and LED panels in houses of poor people of the country.

The 'Master Blaster' was in Baragaon, Barabanki, 20 kms from Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, where he launched the mission by illuminating the house of a poor in the village.

It is worth mentioning that 'Bharat Ratna' Sachin Tendulkar and Schneider Electric India Pvt Ltd have come together to form 'Spreading Happiness in India Foundation', which is working towards illuminating the villages in the country with solar and LED panels.

The foundation has so far relighted 350 houses in Baragaon and over 16,000 houses across the country. It also aims to illuminate 25,000 more houses by 2020.

Sachin Tendulkar shared handshakes with the people of the village to greet them and also appealed his fans gathered in the village to join the campaign.

Talking to the media persons here, the legendary cricketer said, "I have come to Lucknow for the first time after 1994. It feels great to visit Barabanki. We are here for a noble cause."

"We heard a saddening news that hundreds of houses here do not have electricity. We started working in association with our foundation to illuminate villages like Baragaon and have successfully relighted 16,000 houses so far," he added.

He also claimed that he and his foundation was committed to illuminate 25,000 more houses by 2020, and they were working really hard to achieve the goal.
