PMO tweets pictures of Modi’s historic train journey in SA
Durban: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, marked a historic journey while travelling in train from Pentrich Railway Station to Pietermaritzburg in South Africa.
The pictures were shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on Twitter. “Train resembles the one on which Gandhi ji travelled”, the tweet stated.
The history behind South Africa train journey:
- South African played an important role in India’s struggle for Independencefrom British colonial rule.
- Pietermaritzburg station was the place where Mahatma Gandhi was insulted and thrown out of the train, stating him as ‘black Indian’.

- He had addressed the Indian community in Johannesburg before leaving for his journey in train.
