Obama vows to support Erdogan for probe into coup attempt
Washington: United States (US) President Barack Obama on Wednesday vowed to provide the country’s best assistance to his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the probe into previous week’s attempted coup.
“President Obama strongly condemned the insurrection and said the probe and prosecution of the coup’s perpetrators should be carried out in ways that reinforce the confidence of the public in democratic institutions,” said a White House statement.
- The US President lauded the Turkish people’s commitment to democracy and resolve against the violent intervention.
- Obama said the US was willing to back the Turkish authorities’ investigation into the attempted coup in every possible way.
