London: A British news channel’s Muslim correspondent Fatima Manji on Friday filed a complaint against Kelvin McKenzie, a columnist for Rupert Murdoch’s Sun newspaper who raised questions on her for wearing hijab while reporting on the recent truck attack in Nice of France.

McKenzie, in his column, questioned whether a Muslim presenter should had been involved in the report after watching Manji co-presenting the bulletin of ‘Channel 4 News’ on the terror attack.

Manji has made an official complaint against McKenzie to Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) over his act of religious discrimination.

Other highlights:

  • IPSO said it received nearly 1,700 complaints over McKenzie’s remarks.
  • A further complaint was made by Independent Television News (ITN) chief executive John Hardie, who supported the reasoning of Manji’s objection.
  • A spokesperson for the Sun newspaper refused to comment on the issue.
