List of top ten world's tallest statues | Check

Lucknow: All the great civilizations of the world build humongous structures to leave a mark of their dominance. Great Wall of China, Great Pyramid of Giza and Eiffel Tower of Paris are among some great structures created by human beings which never fail to amaze us with their grandeur.

Recently, a one more structure has been added in the list of world's tallest statues, the 'Statue of Unity'. With this new tallest statue we had to reshuffle the existing list. Here, are some of the world's tallest statues in ascending order according to their height:

Grand Buddha at Lingshan, 88 meter

Located in Longshan Mountain, it is one of the largest statues of Buddha in China. The statue has a height of 88 meters, standing on a lotus pedestal. It is completely made of bronze, weighs over 700 tons. It was completed at the end of 1996. This tourist spots covers an area of 74 acres and contains many Buddhist sites.

Great Buddha of Thailand, 92 meter

Great Buddha of Thailand is the tallest statue in the country, measuring a height of 92 meters. Which makes it the second-tallest statue in Southeast Asia, and the seventh-tallest in the world.The construction of this statue took 18 years and was started in 1990 and completed in 2008. The entire statue is made of cement and covered with golden paint.

Peter the Great statue, 96 meter

This 98 meters i.e. 322 ft tall Peter the Great statue, was built in the memory of Russian emperor Peter I, who ruled the country for 43 years. The statue was designed by the Georgian designer Zurab Tsereteli, used 600 tons of stainless steel, Bronze and Copper. This statue weighs 1,000 tons and was unveiled in the year 1997. The statue is facing Moskva river in Central Moscow, Russia.

Sendai Daikannon, 100 meter

This 100 meters tall statue stands at the top of a hill in Sendai, Japan. The statue represents the Japanese Buddhist Bodhisattva. It is a view to behold and could be seen from many parts of the city.

The statue holds a jewel in her right hand to grant wishes and a water flask in her left hand to pour the water of wisdom.

Emperors Yan and Huang, 106 meter

These sculptures are built to honour Chinese emperors Yan and Huang. The construction of these statues took over 20 years for its completion and the chinese government spent around $22.5 million for the construction.

These statues are 106 meters tall and are located in Henan province of China.The eyes of these statues are 3 meters wide and nose have a length of 6 meters.

Guan Yin of the South Sea of Sanya, 108 Meter

The statue represents Buddhist Goddess of compassion, Guan Yin, and is sited in Hainan province of China. This statue is 108 meters tall and has three different faces to represent blessing from the Goddess all over the world.

The first face looks towards the inland and other two faces point towards the sea. It took almost 6 years for the completion of this statue.

Ushiku Daibutsu, 110 meter

Ushiku Daibutsu meant for ‘Great Buddha in Ushiku’ located in Ushiku city of Japan. The statue measures upto 110 meters excluding 10 meters tall base. This Buddha statue is completely made of Bronze.

There are elevators installed within the statue to reach its four different levels. At first level visitors can listen beautiful music, the 2nd level is completely dedicated for scriptural studies, the third level filled with 30,000 Buddha statues. The top level has a beautiful view of gardens within the surroundings of the statue.

Laykyun Setkyar, 116 meter

The third tallest statue in the world is 116 meters tall and is situated in Monywa, Myanmar. The construction of Laykyun Setkyar started in 1996 and completed in 2008. The statue stands on a 13.5 meter throne.

An elevator inside the statue takes visitors to the top for enjoying the panoramic view of the city. A 89 meter lying Buddha can also be seen next to Laykyun Setkyar statue.

Spring Temple Buddha, 153 meter

Spring Temple Buddha is the second tallest statue in the world. It took 9 years to complete, the construction started in 1997 and completed in 2008. It measures up to 153 meters in height and is located in Henan, China. The statue is standing on a 20 meters tall lotus throne, consist of 1,100 pieces of a copper cast.

This statue is named after the name of a hot spring situated near the site. The construction cost estimated $55 million for the construction of Spring temple Buddha.

Statue of Unity, 182 meter

The 182-metre-tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel built near the Sardar Sarovar Dam here in Narmada district was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

It would take around four statues of liberty arranged in a top to bottom fashion just to reach the Iron Man’s head.

The statue of unity is built across Sardar Sarovar dam near the city of Vadodara.
