Varanasi: The cultural and religious heritage of Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is under danger. The ancient Idols in temples of Kashi have become an easy target for thieves, the theft in 'Markandey Mahadev Temple' being the latest such case.
The local residents of Varanasi are anguished and depressed at the same time. They openly allege that the religious Capital of India, one of the oldest living cities of the country, had become the most unsafe place for the tourists, both domestic and foreigners, while a heaven for the criminals.
Despite being a major centre for pilgrimage and constituency of the Prime Minister, the role of local administration and police had left a lot to be desired. They have yet to work many cases of idol theft from different temples.
Some of the locals are even contemplating to take up the issue with the PM Modi if the crime on the cultural places was not stopped in near future.
