Lucknow: Salute is a gesture to pay tribute and the highest form of respect that the armed force display. But did you know that three divisions of our defence forces ,Indian army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force salute in different ways? Here is how they salute:

Indian Army: An Indian army personnel salutes with an open hand with all the fingers together. The middle finger almost touches the cap or the eyebrow.

The main reason behind the open hand salute is that the officers want to make nation believe that they can trust them as they have no bad intention and carry no hidden armament.

Indian Navy: Navy men salute with an open palm facing downwards making 90 degrees to the forehead. They position their hand below the cap.

The navy crew often gets their hands dirty due to oil , grease, and dirt on the deck and to avoid the disrespect to the seniors they salute with the palms pointed downward .

Indian Air Force: Air Force officers salute , making a 45 degree angle from the ground. Their salute means the progress made above.
