Kanpur: The Bhartriya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Etah of Uttar Pradesh, Sakshi Maharaj, known for his controversial remarks, has ignited yet another controversy by saying that women in Islam have no better status than ‘footwear’.

“Just like footwear, women in Islam remain at the feet of men, having no rights and authorities,” said the BJP MP in Unnao district of UP on Saturday.

The firebrand BJP leader, talking about the right for women to offer namaz, also demanded judiciary intervention to allow them entry into mosques like men.

Sakshi Maharaj has repeatedly been in controversies because of his statements. He had created a furore when he termed the religious madrassas a source of terrorism in India.
