New Delhi: The dragon has suffered a defeat the second time in less than a month. It was caused first by members of Missile Technology Control Regime . Now it is an international court, the Hague, which has disturbed its peace. It is unlikely to return soon because it is not yet ready for a re-thinking.

In a judgment delivered on Tuesday, the court has rejected its monopolistic claim over the south China sea which is spread over 35 lakh kilo meters. It is not ready to give up its claim because, besides oil, the sea has rich mineral deposits underneath.

It is not the first time that China has been stubborn. But the difference this time is that many countries including the US has opposed its action. It remains to be seen how the issue will be settled amicably.

The US is not directly involved but some other countries are. The most affected by the Chinese claim are Philippines,Vietnam, Malaysia and India.

What is hurting these countries most is china's opposition to movement of ships of these countries. China has also created bases in the sea which is unacceptable to them .

Although India has been opposed to its presence there, it was Philippines which had filed a case in the court. It was filed three years ago, in 2013.

There is pressure on China to accept the court's verdict but so far it has not shown any willingness to do so.

As in some other cases it has shown attitude in this case too . It has refused to appear before the court.
