Gorakhpur Deaths: Former BRD Principal Rajiv Mishra, wife arrested

Gorakhpur: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday arrested suspended BRD Medical College principal Rajiv Mishra and his wife Dr Purnima Shukla from Kanpur in involvement with the Gorakhpur tragedy in which over 60 children died due to oxygen supply crisis.

According to the STF sources, they are being brought to Gorakhpur for further action.

Earlier, a FIR was lodged against nine accused including Rajiv Mishra and Manish Bhandari of Pushpa Sales and Purnima Shukla. It may be mentioned that all nine of them are on run and the Gorakhpur police has sought help from the Special Task Force to trace them.

FIR was lodged under Sections 420, 308 and 120b of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Besides, Section 7/13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 15 of the Indian Medical Council Act.

Those named in the FIRs are –

• Maneesh Bhandari (Pushpa Sales)
• Uday Pratap (Audit Department)
• Sanjay (Clerk, BRD Hospital)
• Sudheer (Clerk, BRD Hospital)
• RK Mishra (Suspended Principal of BRD)
• Purnima Shukla (Wife of Dr. RK Mishra)
• Kafeel Khan (HOD, 100 bed ward)
• Gajanan Jaiswal (Chief Pharmacist)
• Sateesh (HOD, Anesthesia and oxygen supply dept.)

It is worth mentioning that the action has been taken on basis on the probe report submitted by the Chief Secretary.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had ordered Chief Secretary Rajive Kumar to investigate the deaths of the innocent children. He had earlier submitted his probe report, which led to the suspension of Principal Secretary Medical Education Anita Bhatnagar Jain.
