Gmail introduces new features as it turns 15 on Monday

"It will personalize suggestions for you, so if you prefer saying ‘Ahoy,’ or ‘Ello, mate’ in your greetings, Smart Compose will suggest just that. It can also suggest a subject line based on the email you've written," the company said in a statement.

Gmail introduces new features as it turns 15 on Monday

New York: ‘Gmail’, one of the widely used mailing services developed by Google, turned 15 on Monday. Launched by Paul Buchheit on April 1, 2004, Gmail started with an initial storage capacity of one gigabyte per user and is now giving 15 GB by default.

Having nearly 1.5 billion monthly active users, the mailing team announced a couple of new and useful Gmail features, including improvements to Smart Compose and the ability to schedule emails to be sent in the future.

Smart Compose, which tries to auto complete your emails as you type them, will now be able to adapt to the way you write the greetings in your emails. If you often fret over which subject to use for your emails, then there’s some relief here for you, too, because Smart Compose can now suggest a subject line based on the content of your email.

"It will personalize suggestions for you, so if you prefer saying ‘Ahoy,’ or ‘Ello, mate’ in your greetings, Smart Compose will suggest just that. It can also suggest a subject line based on the email you've written," the company said in a statement.

In addition, Smart Compose is also coming in four new languages: Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese.

To let users take action without having to leave their inboxes, Google would now allow them to respond to comment threads in Google Docs. "This way you don't have to open a new tab or app to get things done," said Google.

With this update, Smart Compose is now also available on all Android devices. Google says that it was previously available only on Pixel 3 devices.

"Over the years, Google also improved Gmail's spam filtering capabilities and today, using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Gmail blocks nearly 10 million spam emails every minute," the team said in a statement.

Gmail was ranked second in PC World's ‘100 Best Products of 2005’, behind Mozilla Firefox. Gmail also won 'Honorable Mention' in the Bottom Line Design Awards 2005. In September 2006, Forbes declared Gmail to be the best web-mail application for small businesses. In November 2006, Gmail received PC World's 4 star rating.
