Hyderabad: A protest was reported in the University of Hyderabad in small hours on Saturday over the issue of removal of tents erected around the Rohith Vemula's memorial and 'Velivada' - where he spent his last days, sources said.

Students claimed that the tents were removed by the varsity officials.

  • Members of the Joint Action Committee for Social Justice said that the incident happened at 2000hrs.
  • Few security officials allegedly removed the tents and also 'dishonoured' a banner of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
  • This comes days after the vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile served a notice to the students' union president ordering them to remove unauthorised tents from the shopping complex.

Several students blocked the main gate in rage on Saturday morning, curbing the functioning of the administration. Heavy deployment of police was made in the university campus.
