Fire broke out in dumping ground of Kalyanpur

Mumbai: A major fire broke out at Agarwadi dumping ground in Kalyan on Tuesday evening. More than 14 fire engines and water tankers were sent to the site to douse the flames.

It took around seven hours to control the fire on the 4 acre dumping ground near Durgadi bridge. The cause of the fire is yet not known.

ABOUT KALYAN DUMP YARD?

  • The 4 acre Agarwadi dumping ground in Kalyan(West) handles 700 metric tonnes of solid waste a day.
  • Pollution has spoiled the area as there is no scientific way procedure to dispose waste.
  • The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation KDMC has been using the Agarwadi Dumping ground since 1984.
  • KDMC planned to shut down the dumping ground scientifically and shift it away from the city.
