Lucknow: A common man turned into a saviour for hundreds of people in Farrukhabad on Thursday when he averted a major rail accident through sheer alertness and presence of mind.

The man, named Pawan, after coming across the disjoint in the railway track near Shyamnagar railway crossing immediately removed his red-colour t-shirt and alerted the driver of Kalindi Express by waiving it.

The train stayed there for about 45 minutes before finally being set off at a slow speed.

Pawan, who emerged as a hero in the entire incident, thought about alerting the driver before informing the matter to the Railways officials as it might have been too late.

After coming across the incident, senior district and local railway officials immediately rushed to the spot and got the track fixed for smooth transition of rail traffic.

The officials also suspected that some people might have deliberately fractured the rail track risking the lives of hundreds of people. They asserted that a probe will be launched into the matter and the appropriate action would be taken against the guilty.
