Chennai: Medical student Gowtham Sudarshan, who dropped a dog down from a terrace, and his friend Ashish Pal, who caught the incident on camera, were on Wednesday apprehended after the appalling video went viral and sparked an outrage on social media platforms. The duo was, however, soon released on bail while the wounded dog was in better health and undergoing treatment.

“We detained both of the accused on Wednesday and they were produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court of Sriperumbudur,” said a senior police official and added, “the duo was later granted bail by the court.

Other highlights:

The injured dog was rushed to a veterinary hospital.

The accused are final year MBBS students of a private medical college.

Both of them were booked under Cruelty to Animals act.

Now, the dog has been named ‘Bhadra’ after Goddess Bhadrakali.
