CM announces compensation for Etah Hooch tragedy victims

Lucknow: Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, on Thursday, announced compensation of rupees Five lakhs each for the victims of Etah Hooch tragedy.

The CM had earlier announced a compensation of rupees two lakhs each fo the families of the deceased but keeping in view the weak financial conditions of the families the amount has been increased to rupees 5 lakhs.

Yadav stated that death in Etah by consuming spurious liquor was unfortunate and the government has ordered a probe into the matter. Whosoever is responsible for taking innocent lives will be punished for the act, said the CM.

The incident:

  • As many as 26 people were killed in Aliganj area of Etah after consuming spurious liquor.
  • The death toll had risen to 30, including the deaths in all nearby areas where the liquor was supplied.
  • More than 15 people were admitted to hospitals of Etawah, Agra, Farrukhabad, Etah, Kanpur and Delhi out of which many died during the treatment.
