Abuja: One of the schoolgirls kidnapped from Chibok town in Borno state of Nigeria has been recovered. She was the first to be rescued since their abduction two years ago.

Amina Ali Nkeki was found, carrying a baby, by a vigilante group in Sambisa forest of northern Nigeria on Tuesday last. She was with a suspected member of the Boko Haram Islamist group.

The 19-year-old was recognised by a civilian fighter of the Joint Task Force (JTF) – a group formed to fight against terror outfits – and shortly, reunited with her mother.

The Boko Haram militant, who claimed to be the girl’s husband, was identified as Mohammad Hayatu.

“The man has been arrested and taken to the regional capital with Amina and her baby for medical attention,” said military personnel.

Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping:

As many as 276 female students were kidnapped from a government secondary school at Chibok in April, 2014 and its responsibility was claimed by Boko Haram – an extremist an terror organisation based in North-eastern Nigeria.
