UN to observe Ambedkars birth anniversary for the first time

New Delhi: The 125th birth anniversary of the father of the Indian constitution, Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar will be observed for the first time in the United Nations Headquarters on April 13, a day before his birthday. On this ocassion a pannel discussion will be organised by the UN on 'reducing inequalities for the achievement of sustainable development goals'.

The day will be commemorated by The Permanent Mission of India to the UN in association with the Kalpana Saroj Foundation and Foundation for Human Horizon.

India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin tweeted, "Babasaheb's birth anniversary to be observed at UN for 1st time with focus on combating inequalities to achieve SDGs."

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, born on April 14, 1981 was posthumously conferred with the Bharat Ratna in 1990 after his death in 1956.
