Bomb blast in Quetta kills 40, more than 35 injured

Karachi: A bomb blast in a hospital in Quetta, capital of Pakistan’s southwestern state Baluchistan, killed 40 people and injured 35. The blast took place after a gunfire leading to assassination of President of Baluchistan Bar Association, Advocate Bilal Kasi, by some unidentified assailants. He was shifted to Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

What officials said about the attack:

  • According to police and rescue officials, the bomb exploded as lawyers brought Bilal Kasi, to the hospital.”
  • The Pakistan police said that most of the injured were lawyers.

Current situation in Quetta:

  • Curfew has been imposed in hospital areas in Quetta and a heavy contingent of Frontier Corps and police has cordoned off the area. The Baluchistan police stated that the gunfire continued even after the blast.

The provincial capital has received a number of such terror attacks recently. The Baluchistan University had recently witnessed an explosion that had killed two persons and injured five others.
