Srinagar: Five suspected militants were killed while two soldiers were injured in an encounter carried out by the Special Operation Group (SOG), Army and police at Dragmulla village in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The army on Friday intercepted a militant group that was hiding in an abandoned house of the village.

“Our troops along with SOG and J&K police had launched an operation near the forests late night,” said Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel N N Joshi and added, “five militants were killed and five AK rifles were recovered from the encounter site.”

Highlights:

  • The encounter continued for nine hours.
  • The injured soldiers were rushed to hospital and their condition was stable.
  • The bodies of militants have been handed over to the police for identification.
  • The terrorists were possibly affiliated to Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group, said police.
