Washington: At least two students were shot dead while an ‘active shooter’ was reported at the University of California campus in Los Angeles of United States (US), officials confirmed.

The situation started at around 0945 hrs when two shots were fired at the Engineering IV building of the campus on Wednesday last.

Students at the varsity are being instructed to continue to shelter inside locked doors. According to the Los Angeles School Police, the Warner Elementary School, which is close to the university, has been placed on a precautionary lockdown.

Highlights:

  • According to the local media, the gunman was wearing a black jacket and black trousers.
  • Police were still searching for the shooter.
  • Multiple ambulances and numerous heavy-armed officers, including bomb squad officials, were seen at the campus.
  • The Federal Bureau of investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were called in to assist.
