Colombo: Six fishermen from Tamil Nadu were on Wednesday detained and their boat seized by Sri Lankan naval officials for allegedly fishing in their territorial waters, crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line.

“The fishermen were arrested from Talaimannar in the island nation by naval personnel. Moreover, the officials also cut the nets of ten other boats,” said Fishermen’s Association president S Emiret while talking to media persons.

Highlights:

  • All the six fishermen hail from coastal village of Tamil Nadu.
  • For the last few days, many other fishermen of Tamil Nadu did not go fishing due to rough seas and strong winds.
