Tremendous jump in sales of Made in India Smartphones worldwide
All this has resulted in increased local manufacturing.
'Made in India' smartphone shipments have registered a growth of six percent in the year 2024. This growth was due to the increasing exports of tech giants Apple and Samsung from India. This information was given in a report released on Thursday. According to the 'Make in India' Service Report of Counterpoint Research, Apple and Samsung's combined share in the country's smartphone exports in 2024 was 94 percent.
Both brands have significantly expanded their manufacturing in India to align with the country's objective of reducing dependence on imports and strengthening its presence in the global supply chain. The government's PLI (production-based incentive) scheme has encouraged global manufacturers to set up or expand their production facilities in the country. All this has resulted in increased local manufacturing.
Senior research analyst Prachir Singh said, "India presents itself as a great manufacturing destination due to its huge local market, affordable labour costs and favourable government schemes focused on boosting local manufacturing." He said smartphone manufacturing in the country is expected to grow in double digits in 2025, with local value addition also increasing.
Foxconn Hon Hai's manufacturing volume grew 19 percent in 2024, backed by Apple. Research analyst Tanvi Sharma said, "Foxconn plans to set up smartphone display module assembly to enhance its local manufacturing capabilities." Tata Electronics was the fastest-growing manufacturer in 2024, registering 107 pertcent year-on-year growth, with the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 being the major volume contributors.
The company has expanded its iPhone assembly and entered semiconductor manufacturing with a new plant in Dholera, Gujarat. The report said that 'Dixon' remained the largest manufacturer in the overall mobile handset segment (smartphones and feature phones), while Transsion's brand and Motorola's shipment figures were good.
In the year 2024, Samsung continued to strengthen its position as an important company in the country's electronics manufacturing and recorded an annual growth of seven percent due to increased exports. Vivo was in second place, which managed to increase its shipment share to 14 percent with a growth of 14 percent by expanding in the offline retail sector and strengthening its marketing network.
