TCS to say final good bye to Lucknow in December 2017
Lucknow: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is all geared up to say good bye to Lucknow by December this year, said a source on Wednesday.
The company Vice President and Northern Region head Tez Pal Batla reached Lucknow on Wednesday and held a meeting with the project leaders in the company office. In the meeting he asked the team leaders to either wind up their projects before December this year or get them in condition that they could be shifted to Noida or Indore offices by the deadline.
The decision has put the jobs of over 2,000 techies, with around 50 per cent women employees, at risk, as they might be asked by TCS to shift their base to some other city or quit the job.
It is being said that TCS has taken the decision as Lucknow office has failed consistently in generating revenues over the years. If the company sticks to its decision, it surely will cause great loss to the economy of Uttar Pradesh capital.
The company employees have even reached out to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seeking his intervention, but no official statement has yet been issued by the CM’s office.
According to the sources, TCS officials had a meeting with Yogi government representative over the same in which the company had said that due to financial reasons, it may shift some of its staffers to Nagpur and Indore. The company doesn’t have its own building in Lucknow, neither they have sufficient resources for acquiring the same.
The sources further informed that TCS has taken the decision to big adieu to the state capital as the Awadh Park in Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar owner is willing to raise the rent amount on the basis of market rate. Earlier, there were reports that the 10-year lease period of the building will end in May 2017, however, the reports were then quashed by a company official.
TCS has been operating in Lucknow since 1984. During the first five years of its formation, the company’s office was at the Rana Pratap Marg. During 1988 to 2008, its office was located at the station road, and since then it has been functioning from Gomti Nagar locality of the state capital.
