Users of Google's cloud storage service Google Drive will now be able to view their files even if they do not have access to the internet thanks to the addition of offline mode support. Users will be able to store their PDFs, office files, and pictures to Google Drive for offline access and viewing. For this, files will need to be tagged in advance, and even if there is no Internet connection, they will be able to access the files by using a browser to view them.

The testing began two years ago

Two years ago, in 2019, Google began testing the new offline mode functionality, with users being given the option to choose just non-Google file types to be marked for offline usage. Users that use Google Drive on the web will be able to view files even when they are not connected to the internet. The functionality is currently being rolled out to all users, and users will be able to choose and mark PDFs, pictures, and Microsoft Office documents to be used in offline mode in the future.

Install Google Drive for desktop app

You must first install the Google Drive for Desktop application on your Windows or Mac computer before you can utilize offline mode. To enable 'Offline' access, navigate to the drive settings on the web and select the 'Offline' access option. When users click on the supported file once the app setup procedure is complete, they will be presented with an 'available offline' option. When you click on it, the file may be accessed even if you don't have an Internet connection.

Are you eligible for the new feature?
