Have you noticed the ₹ icon for payments through WhatsApp?

Earlier this year, WhatsApp began providing a payment function in India, and the service is now getting an "Indian Touch." In the current version, users may access the payment option by clicking on the attach symbol after opening a chat window, while the upcoming update will add an Rs icon in the chat composer. To put it another way, when WhatsApp users are typing messages, they will also be able to pay with the assistance of UPI by pressing the rupee symbol on their screen.

The news came from GFF

During the Global Fintech Festival (GFF), WhatsApp announced that the rupee symbol would be added to the chat composer to make it simpler for WhatsApp users in India to utilize the payment function. In addition, customers will be able to scan the payment QR code by clicking the camera icon at the composer and make payments in more than 20 million shops throughout India by using their smartphones. This means that users will be able to read QR codes straight from the camera icon, which is a welcome addition.

Payments are now easy with WhatsApp

The National Payments Corporation of India granted WhatsApp permission to test payments features in November of last year, using a single payments interface developed by the company (UPI). Now that the payment function is accessible to all users, they have the option of connecting their bank accounts, talking, and making payments via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Users will be able to pay more conveniently with the new version by just clicking on two symbols (a camera and a rupee mark) that show in the chat composer.

According to the business, the deployment of new payment shortcuts has begun, and in the next weeks, all users will be able to use this feature in the chat composer. The Payments Institute said that "millions of users exchange WhatsApp conversations every day and spend time taking and sharing pictures." Manesh Mahatme, director of WhatsApp India, spoke at the Global Futures Forum. "We aim to make the process of transferring money as simple and straightforward as sending texts."

Cashback for users

Users who make payments via WhatsApp Payments may be eligible for rewards in the coming weeks. According to a recent report, customers may benefit from cashback in place of WhatsApp payments after the release of WhatsApp upgrades in the coming weeks. It has been revealed that customers who make payments via the app's payments function will be eligible for a cashback of up to Rs 10 from the company.

Setup your WhatsApp Payment Account

After upgrading the app to the current version, users will be able to set up the UPI-based payment system, which supports more than 160 Indian banks. To do so, they will need to go to the settings menu in the app. At the bottom of the screen, you'll notice a new 'payment' option, which you may use. On the next page, you will find a selection of banks from which you may choose your preferred bank. You will be able to create a bank account and use WhatsApp for both talking and making payments from this page.

Payment info is also accessible for users

Users of the messaging app may soon be able to access a new feature known as Payments Information. Users will be notified of any payments they have made via the WhatsApp payment service with the assistance of this feature. According to leaked screenshots, the feature would send a request to WhatsApp to generate a payment record for the user. It will instead offer information on payments made by the user and the settings that are connected with those payments.
