The Supreme Court on Friday refused to consider the plea seeking to constitute a three-judge panel to probe the conduct of former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi as a judge of the apex court.

Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha. President Ram Nath Kovind has nominated the former CJI to the Rajya Sabha in a notification issued by the Central Government late on Monday evening.

As the CJI, he took tough decisions against erring judges and recommended their transfers and a woman high court judge was virtually forced to resign. He also headed a bench which dealt with a contempt proceedings against former apex court judge Markandey Katju for his remarks against judiciary in his blog.

"I chose to belong to an institution whose strength lay in public confidence and trust earned not through good press, but through our work as Judges on the bench.

Senior Supreme Court judges on Sunday heaped praise on Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi for his handling of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit and delivering the judgment on the fractious issue.
