An elderly man died and his three children sustained injuries after a group of people allegedly attacked them outside their house in Miranpur town here, police said on Tuesday.

Thirty-five years after she applied for Indian citizenship, a Pakistani woman, married to a man in Muzaffarnagar city and residing in the country on a long-term visa, has been granted Indian nationality.

They said when the man was leaving the girl's house, a few villagers caught him and beat him up before handing him over to the police.

Acting on the complaint of one Shivam Meghali, police booked Bijender Saini and Prince Ashok Acharya on Tuesday under the Information Technology Act, Station House Officer Anil Kaparvan said.

A case was registered against Aftab and his five family members under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, SHO of Kotwali police station Anil Kapervan said.

A case has also been registered against four other members of the husband's family for allegedly beating up the woman, they said.

The accused, Devendra was arrested on Tuesday for the involvement in the murder of eight person in 2003, police said.

Sonia, 30, was taken to the centre in the district's Faloda village in Purkazi block on Friday for treatment. While she was still lying unconscious on a bed in the patients' room, the staff of the centre, including a doctor, left in the afternoon as their duty hours were over.
