US Open: Sania Mirza, Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna enter second round

New York: Indian Tennis stars Sania Mirza, Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna on Thursday reached second round by defeating their opponents in the first round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows here.

Sania Mirza:

Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova pair defeated American duo Jada Myii Hart and Ena Shibahara by 6-3, 6-2 in a women’s doubles match. The match lasted 69 minutes. Now, the Indian pair will play winner of the match between Swiss-USA duo Viktorija Golubic, Nicole Melichar and US-German pair of Madison Brengle, Tatjana Maria.

Leander Paes:

Indo-Swiss pair of Leander Paes and Martina Hingis thumped USA-France combo of Sachia Vickery and Tiafoe 6-3, 6-2 in a mixed doubles game. Paes-Hingis will take on the winner of the match between Australia-Colombia pair Anastasia Rodionova, Juan Sebastian Cabal.

Rohan Bopanna:

In men’s doubles, Rohan Bopanna and Frederik Nielsen of Denmark outshined Radek Stepanek and Nenad Zimonjic by 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3. They will play Brain Baker of USA and New Zealand’s Marcus Daniell in their next encounter.
