Washington: After facing an unexpected defeat in the Copa America Centenrio, Uruguay’s hopes of entering into the quarter-finals has shattered.

Uruguay faced the defeat from Venezuela in a Football match in Philadelphia on Friday.

Since 1997, this is for the first time that Uruguay, who is 15-time Copa America champions, faced elimination in the group phase.

After a shocking loss, Uruguay's revered coach Oscar Tabarez said-

  • We never found the game we wanted and that cost us.
  • It's been a very different Copa America. I've never experienced something like this before.
  • We knew it was going to be difficult but this should be a wake-up call before the World Cup qualifiers.

On the other hand, Mexico, who had beaten Uruguay by 3-1 in their opening game, defeated Jamaica by 2-0 and registered themselves for the quarter-finals of Copa America along with Venezuela.
