New Delhi: Suhas Yathiraj has created history by winning the silver medal in the Tokyo Paralympics. In the SL4 class final, Suhas Yathiraj missed out on the gold medal after losing to Lucas Mazur of France. Majur defeated Suhas 15-21, 21-17, 21-15.

Suhas Yathiraj bags Silver:

This is India's third medal in badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics. Suhas, 38, the District Magistrate (DM) of Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) has also become the first IAS officer to win a medal in the Paralympic Games. Earlier on Saturday, Indian shuttler Pramod Bhagat won the gold medal in badminton singles SL-3 by performing amazingly.

Pramod Bhagat, 33, hailing from Odisha, is the first Indian shuttler to win gold in the Olympics or Paralympics. Apart from him, Manoj Sarkar of India won the bronze medal in the same event. With this, India's medal tally in the Tokyo Olympics has gone up to 18. India has so far won 4 gold, eight silver and six bronze medals. India has won five medals in shooting and three in badminton at the Tokyo Paralympics. At the same time, Indian shuttler Krishna Nagar has ensured India's 19th medal by reaching the final.

Who is Suhas Yathiraj:

Suhas, 38, from Karnataka has a disorder in his ankles. Suhas, who has achieved many achievements inside and outside the court, is a computer engineer and also an ISS officer of 2007 batch.

He has been the District Magistrate of Noida since 2020 and has led the front in the war against the Corona pandemic. Suhas, who graduated as a computer engineer from NIT Karnataka, has previously been the District Magistrate of Prayagraj, Agra, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Sonbhadra districts.

Suhas said, 'I was the guest at the inauguration of the tournament and expressed my desire to participate. Till then it was a hobby for me as I was playing badminton since childhood. I got a chance to play there and I beat state level players.
