Team India lose 2-5 to Belgium


New Delhi: Indian men's hockey team lost in the first semi-final. World champion Belgium beat India 5-2. Even after the defeat, India's medal hopes have not ended. The bronze medal match is to be held on August 5. Australia and Germany will clash in the second semi-final.

The losing team in this match will go against India. India is waiting for its first medal after 1980.

India lose to Belgium:

In the first semi-final of the men's section, Belgium got off to a great start. In the second minute, Locke Luipert scored on a penalty corner to give Belgium a 1-0 lead. After this the Indian team made a comeback.

Hammarmanpreet Singh scored a penalty corner in the 7th minute to level the score 1-1. Mandeep Singh scored a goal in the 8th minute to take India 2-1. Belgium once again made a comeback in the second quarter. Alexander Hendricks scored at a corner in the 19th minute to level the score 2-2. The score was tied at 2-2 till half time.

However, in the third quarter of the match, the pace of both the teams decreased and no goal was scored. In the 49th minute, Hendricks scored a second goal from a penalty corner to give Belgium a 3-2 lead.

Then in the 53rd minute, Alexander Hendricks scored a hat-trick on a penalty stroke to give Belgium a 4-2 lead. Dohmann scored in the 60th minute to give Belgium a 5-2 victory. India had won 4 matches in a row, but the team could not repeat this performance in the semi-finals. Belgium awaits its first Olympic gold medal.

The Indian hockey team last won a medal in 1980. Then the team got the gold medal. But now in Tokyo, the team can only get maximum bronze medals.
