Team India has suffered a shameful defeat by 184 runs in the Melbourne Test and now Australia has taken a 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar series. Yashasvi Jaiswal played the highest innings of 84 runs from the Indian team's side. Earlier today, Australia's second innings was reduced to 234 runs. India has got a target of 340 runs to win. While chasing the target, India has suffered three setbacks in the form of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli.

Captain Pat Cummins and Scott Boland took three wickets each, thanks to which Australia defeated India by 184 runs in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday. India's score at tea time was 112/3, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a restrained half-century and Rishabh Pant showing remarkable restraint. But Pant fell to Travis Head in the final session of the thrilling Test match and that opened the way for Australia to take the lead as India went from 121/3 to 155 all out.

The visitors lost their last seven wickets for 34 runs in 20.3 overs, meaning Australia now lead the five-match series 2-1 ahead of the final match in Sydney. For India, they will be disappointed as this was a game they could have drawn but have now lost. The shot selection of the batsmen in the second innings fell apart like a pack of cards, along with the poor form of their senior batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also come under scrutiny as the final Test in Sydney has now become a must-win for India to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
