Mumbai. Mumbai Marathon 2020 today held in Mumbai. Aaditya Thackeray flagged off half marathon at 5.15 am from Worli dairy, while full marathon began from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.

Above 55,000 participated in Tata Mumbai Marathon 2020

Total number of 55,000 Runners participated in Mumbai Marathon 2020. Rahul Bose, Milind Soman, Gulzar and many other celebrates taken part in the Star-studded Event.

It was 17th Edition of the Tata Mumbai Marathon. Mumbaikers woke up today early morning and pro-runners and amateurs heading out to set their own personal record. Among them was Maharashtra tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray, who arrived there to flag off the half marathon.

The full marathon was flagged off around 5:15 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 5:15 am, while half began from Worli dairy. Both races run past Sealink, Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Haji Ali, Peddar road, Babulnath temple, Chowpatty and the race ends at Azad Maidan.

The 10 Kilometre run began at 6:20 am and Marathon Elite Race started at 7:20 am from CSMT.

The Champions with disability race began at 7:25 am from CSMT and end up at OCS Police Chowky, MG Road. The senior citizens run and dream run too began from CSMT at 7:45 am and 8:05 am respectively, and both the races were ended at Metro Theatre, MG Road.

CM Uddhav Thackeray flagged off the Dream Run of the 17th edition of the Mumbai Marathon. Actor Rahul Bose also participated in the Dream Run. Lyricist Gulzar was also present with the children during the run.

Kenya's Cosmos Lagat was spotted leading the men's field, while defending champion Worknesh Alemu of Ethiopia was seen headlining the women's field. The Indian contingent at the star-studded event was led by Srinu Bugatha and Sudha Singh, respectively.

Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff and seven-time Olympic medallist and nine-time gymnastics world champion Shannon Miller have been roped in by the authorities as the face of the event and event's international brand ambassador respectively.

8 suffered from heart attack 1 died during event

Seven people have suffered heart attack also during the marathon today and are being treated in hospitals. However a 64-year-old man Gajanan Maljalkar, a retired bank official from Maharashtra's Nala Sopara town died during the event due to heart attack.

55,322 Registrations happened for the event

According to a report, the event has seen 55,322 registrations, around 19% more from last year when 46,414 people registered for it. The record states there has been 35% increase in women’s participants, with 15,890 women registering for this year's race as compared to 11,805 last year. Derara Hurisa won the Marathon in Men’s category whereas Amane Buriso won in women’s category of Marathon.

Aditya Thackeray Twitted as Tourism Minister

Aditya Thackeray later twitted also about the event saying, CM Uddhav Thackeray was truly delighted to see the josh dream run that he flagged off this morning! This truly brings the world to Mumbai. More such global sporting events in Maharashtra will be boost tourism as well.
